Tips & Tricks for Measuring Your Stainless Steel Chimney Chase Cap
To ensure a perfect fit, we recommend the following best practices when taking measurements:
• Sketch a diagram of the chimney/chase while on the roof and clearly mark your measurements.
• Take a photo of the existing chase cap for reference.
• Photograph your sketched diagram in case the paper copy is misplaced.
• Submit your measurements once you are safely on the ground or back in your office.
• Contact your Recapture Services Sales Representative anytime you have questions.
Skirt/Side Length
• Standard skirt/side length options: 2” to 10” (in 1” increments)
• Each skirt/side includes a 1⁄2” drip lip bent at a 45° angle to help shed water.
Chase Cap Measurements
• Always record actual measurements. Recapture Services will add 3⁄8” play to ensure the
cap fits properly.
• Measure all four sides, preferably from the fascia board rather than the top of the
existing cap.
• Record both length and width. For accuracy, use the longest measurement from each
dimension.
Number of Holes
• Options: 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4
• For “no hole” caps, select 0 and skip the hole section.
• For caps with more than 3 holes, please contact your sales representative to confirm
accuracy.
Hole Location & Measurements
We determine hole placement by center points rather than edge-to-pipe distances.
• Step 1: Estimate the pipe’s center point. (Close is good; exact is not required.)
• Step 2: Measure from two sides only to the center point.
• Step 3: For multiple holes, always measure from the same two sides for consistency.
Hole Measurement Details (repeat for each hole):
• Measurement 1: Which edge are you measuring from? (Select A, B, C, or D via
diagram). Provide whole and fractional inches.
• Measurement 2: Repeat from a second edge (same format).
• Pipe Size:
◦ Remove the flue cap and measure across the pipe, or measure total circumference
and divide by 3.14.
◦ Add 1”–1.5” to your actual pipe size and round up to the nearest whole inch.
◦ Example:
▪ 10” pipe → order 11” hole size
▪ 10.25” pipe → order 11” hole size
▪ 10.75” pipe → order 12” hole size
◦ Available in whole inch increments from 5”–20”.
Square Flue Cap Style
Some flue caps feature a square box design around the exhaust pipe. If your flue cap has this
style:
• Select “Yes” for vertical rain collar. Our standard collar height is 1.5”.
• If “No” is selected, we will ship the correct collar based on the hole size chosen earlier.
